Team Breezy won’t have to wait much longer for a new Chris Brown album. The R&B superstar has announced his 12th LP, BROWN, will release May 8, three days after his 37th birthday.

He confirmed the news in an Instagram post at the stroke of midnight on Friday. “It’s OBVIOUS I’m tryna start the summer up! May 8th #BROWNALBUM,” he told his 143 million followers.

Along with the album news, Brown also dropped his latest single “Obvious,” which he previewed last summer.

Produced by Roccstar, “Obvious” speaks to an undeniable chemistry between two prospective lovebirds. It’s the kind of bond that has him unapologetically lavishing her with all the finest things in life, from private jet rides to champagne showers. “I’m doing things I ain’t never done / I do it all for you ’cause you one of one,” he sings.

“Obvious” continues the thread of his BROWN era singles that began with the pop-tinged “Holy Blindfold,” followed by the Bryson Tiller-assisted “It Depends,” which peaked at No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The latter track, released in July, became certified gold by the RIAA just three months after its release, with over 500,000 equivalent units sold in the U.S.

Around the time of its certification, Brown dropped a remix featuring Usher. It won Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration (Contemporary) at the 2026 NAACP Image Awards, as well as the standard version (Outstanding Soul/R&B Song).

BROWN will follow his 2023 chart-topping album 11:11, which included the No. 1 hits “Sensational” with Davido and Lojay and “Summer Too Hot.”

The following year, Brown reissued the album with a deluxe edition that included the award-winning “Residuals,” plus collaborations with Tiller, Mario, Lil Wayne and Davido, among others.

At the 67th Grammy Awards in 2025, 11:11 (Deluxe) was crowned Best R&B Album. It marked Brown’s second Grammy win following 2011’s F.A.M.E.

Brown had quite a remarkable year in 2025. Not only did he win a Grammy, but he also embarked on his first-ever stadium tour, Breezy Bowl XX, which grossed nearly $300 million and sold over 2 million tickets across 52 dates. The tour commemorated the 20th anniversary of Brown’s self-titled debut album.

According to Pollstar, the sold-out tour ranked No. 7 among the year’s highest-grossing tours. Pollstar also reported that he became the first artist to sell out three nights at Washington D.C.’s Nationals Park, with 121,192 tickets sold. Read our review of his D.C. stop here.

Brown won R&B Artist of the Year at the 2026 iHeartRadio Music Awards. The category also included SZA, Leon Thomas, Kehlani and Mariah the Scientist.

Up next, Brown hinted that another announcement is coming later on Friday (April 10). “I still got sum to tell yall Friday!!!” he posted on Instagram Stories, with smirking and laughing emojis.
