Queen Naija ushers in a new chapter with her new EP, 30.
Naija’s first release under her new deal with Motown Records is a celebration and reflection of 30 years of life. (Her 30th birthday was Oct. 17.)
The eight-track set, executive produced by NO I.D. and Poo Bear, is a warm embrace of personal growth, self-worth, love and womanhood.
On “My Man…,” which features Mariah The Scientist, Naija can’t get enough of her significant other. “Love the way you handle me / Bring out my femininity,” she sings on the Camper production.
“I Deserve…” may be the shortest track on this project but it’s packed with affirmations that can be repeated over a lifetime. “I deserve good sex / Good rest / Good rest / Good times / No stress,” Naija sings. It speaks to the longing to live without the weight of everyday pressures and reminds us to pour back into ourselves as we do into others.
