Chase Shakur Releases ‘Wonderlove’ Deluxe Album

Alt-R&B singer Chase Shakur has unveiled Wonderlove+, the deluxe edition of his debut album, Wonderlove.

The expanded set contains seven bonus tracks, with features from British Nigerian singer Odeal and R&B singer Girlfriend.

Expanding on the world first introduced with the standard edition, Wonderlove+ makes for an immersive listen, where Shakur’s gossamer vocals float over pulsating grooves (“Tell Me Why”) and punchy, staccato drums (“Seeing Red”).

On the Odeal-assisted “I’m Ready,” Shakur wants to make it official with a love interest but only if the feeling is mutual; otherwise, he will “pack it up and get to my old way.”

The stripped-down “Hide & Seek” is a gentle confrontation with a distant partner: “Tryna make a movie but your love feels like hide and seek.””Decatur Baby,” another standout, swings with the nostalgia of a ’90s love jam on late-night radio.

Wonderlove was released Feb. 7 via Def Jam Recordings. The album was preceded by the singles “Limerence,” “2ofUs,” and “Focus on Me.”

Regarding Wonderlove, Shakur told Rated R&B in an interview, “I wanted to write something that was the opposite of what we were talking about at the time. A lot of times, we talk about toxic relationships. I wanted to play with the idea of doing the opposite of that. It doesn’t have to be always so intense.”
